Although it was a little hard to find for our non-local party, this place was delicious. We visited for breakfast and the food was delicious. The Boston cream pancake special was like desert and amazing. The service was wonderful- prompt and attentive. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.

Cute little place. Surprisingly good for a restaurant tucked in a small shopping center. Kind of had a diner type feel but not really lol. Very friendly service, as expected from the south. They had complimentary coffee and water while you waited to be seated which was awesome. Great specials. Def a go to place if in town. I'd be a regular if I lived closer for sure :) Their chai tea was also so so good.

Wow!! What a great spot, a little gem in a strip mall with fabulous food, all day breakfasts, beautiful large salads. They have a very varied menu with all the food made to order. I had the Pecan Encrusted Chicken with cranberries, Feta, Apples & a thick slice of beer bread that is house made. . Delicious. $9.99. Great deal. It's a very busy spot with lots of people local to the area, nice local artwork on the walls. Plenty of parking outside in the Strip Mall. They also have about 5 small tables to eat outside should you so wish. This place is a must & I will definitely return. Loved it.

Another great breakfast spot off the beaten path. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the Southern Eggs Benedict! I could've eaten a 2nd serving! Biscuits could have been a tad bit softer/warmer, but they were oh so good. Also, fyi the corned beef hash is shredded, not chopped. Expect about a 30 minute wait. Small place, big charm.

Excellent food and service! I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and my wife ordered the Taste of New Orleans special. We shared dishes and both were great.

The best, the best, the best. One of the top 3 breakfast places in Charleston. Lots of food, cheap prices. Bacon is to die for. Pancakes, big, very big. Top notch food, and people. Always a line, go early. Not known by many and off the beaten track, but worth the drive. Maybe a local place. I love it every time I go, you will too. Frank G

Enjoyed the Colonial Salad with pecan encrusted chicken! Delicious balsamic dressing! Also went to breakfast today. Incredible Brioche French Toast with Caramelized bananas and pecans!

After having fried food for pretty much every meal in Charleston, I was feeling something simple and got the Southern Breakfast, which was just eggs with grits and a sweet potato biscuit. The grits were plain but hit the spot. Bf got the Southern Benedict, which had fried green tomatoes and eggs on a piece of French bread with a side of chippers (homemade potato chips). He said it was good but the bread was too thick. Nothing too fancy. Good, quick service. I would come again.

We eat here one a month or so after church on Sunday's. I usually get the veggie omelet because I try to avoid fried foods and heavy carbs. This omelet was so bland today that I ate as little as possible to last until I could get home. The cheese was barely visible. I love this place. But, from our last few visits, it seems the quality is slipping.

This restaurant is the real thing. We were staying at a hotel just down highway 17 from this restaurant. We got a little bit of a later start to our day so we decided that we wanted to get a hearty breakfast. The Charleston Cafe gave us just what we were looking for and packed it with great southern cooking with a very contemporary twist. Before we talk about the food, I want to be sure to give a sour out to the staff. The staff was friendly, courteous and made the experience wonderful. Since it was 10:00 on a Sunday there was a short wait (15 minutes). There was coffee, water and plenty of chairs for us while we waited. I got the chefs special, one of many items on the board for the day. The chefs special was three shrimp, green onion grit cakes topped with two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and the a short shell crab on it. The flavors were spectacular, the eggs perfectly poached and the combination of shrimp and crab in a breakfast dish was a real treat. My wife had the southern Benedict which was a buttermilk biscuit, fried green tomato, crispy smoked bacon, poached egg and Hollandaise sauce on top of a French baguette. It was very good as well, and her fist fried green tomato of her life. My daughter also got an item of the special menu which was a drunken Mac and cheese with smoked bacon, topped with two over easy eggs. She ate up every bite in short order. One of the great tasting unique items here is the sweet potato biscuit. It is delicious, I would go back just for more of these. Charleston Cafe was great, top of the many breakfast places I have gone. You feel at home and have great food.

I get excited about a good breakfast. And good breakfasts aren't that hard to find. A great breakfast, however, isn't that easy. A memorable breakfast is an even more elusive thing and when found, is something to be coveted and revered. I found that memorable breakfast at Charleston's Cafe. Wow. First of all, the service was spectacular and attentive with smiles, friendly banter, quick refills, and full of southern charm. The menu was full of eye popping, drool inducing selections of not only your typical omlets, waffles, and pancakes, but also lists "novelties" which include things I've never imagined for breakfast! I mean, sausage patties dipped in pancake batter and grilled and served with eggs over chippers (fried thin potatoes)? Who doesn't want to try that??? And the sweet potato biscuits with the taste of cinnamon and brown sugar are to die for! Plus, the specials are on a chalkboard menu and take the innovation up a couple notches more! My Folly Island special was a thing of beauty with country ham, broccoli, peppers, onions and perfectly cooked eggs with sinfully delicious queso cheese. And my wife's selection was even better, if that's possible!! This place is a true gem and well worth trying. Get here early or you will be joining that line that forms out the door. And for good reason!

We stumbled upon this place during a quick trip to Charleston. They serve breakfast and lunch and it was AMAZING. I got the crab melt and my boyfriend got "Andrew's Choice" which is sausage patties dipped in pancake batter grilled with fried eggs, gruyere and maple syrup. Everything we put in our mouths was absolutely delicious. I ate at some great restaurants while in Charleston, but I have to say my lunch here definitely is at the top of the list.

Decent . . food lacked passion and flavor was mediocre. Pancakes were dry and the biscuits were even dryer.

Brunch is one of my favorite meals and when I'm offered really inventive choices and they turn out ridiculously delicious, I get really excited! And Charleston's Cafe blew me away with what they offer and the service was spectacular, too. Sweet potato biscuits & pimento cheese in my grits? Yes, please!!!! The menu looked amazing but the white board even more so. The Bruschetta Omelet had spinach, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, tomatoes, capers, guacamole, kalamata olives, asiago & a dollop of fresh mozzarella on top. I know, right? And it tasted even better than it sounds. It wasn't the overstuffed concoction I anticipated. All the ingredients were cooked into the eggs and then it was folded in half, which made it super easy to eat and everything melded together so well it was sinful. The sweet potato biscuits are somewhat dense with cinnamon and brown sugar flavor. Those pimento cheese grits would have stood on their own for breakfast and I'd have been delighted with just them. This breakfast earned every one of it's 5 stars and I feel very fortunate that we arrived when we did and were seated right away. Every other time we drove by during our visit to Mt. Pleasant, SC, there was a line down the sidewalk. One doesn't need to wonder why.

Food is excellent. Came with friends and we all ordered something different and we all shared. It was delicious. Check the photos.

The fried green tomato and pimento cheese sandwich was great. The tomato basil soup was delicious, but unfortunately it was lukewarm. I'm still amazed though when I go to a "Southern" restaurant I. The south that doesn't have straight black iced tea. They offered iced tea brewed with cinnamon. I'm from Atlanta, I like my iced tea strong and black.

Get the deep fried cinnamon roll! & the PBJ as well. Crew we were with also really liked the sweet tea. It's kinda spicy I got the crab, Brie & avocado omelette. Was good could've used a bit more Brie, but I'm a cheese junkie though. Lol Partner got the waffle sandwich with chicken & gravy. The waffle was a bit to soft to hold contents but was good Sweat potato muffin are super super good

Very good. Had the swordfish and it was prepared very well. It was extremely simple / nothing fancy, but tasty. It gets crowded very quickly, so get there early (or very late) if you have a big group.

What a great breakfast spot! Everything looked so good, was hard to decide what to order. I ordered the Southern Benedict (a biscuit with fried green tomatoes, bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise) and my husband ordered the Brioche French Toast and we both would have licked our plates if it were socially acceptable!! Will be back if we're ever in town again!

We love going out for breakfast and have had some excellent breakfasts in the Charleston area. We were, however, mostly disappointed with this breakfast. The coffee is terrible (and I'm not that picky) and the french toast was practically inedible. Honestly, it seemed like they were cutting corners on things - since the coffee was so watered down and the french toast had minimal batter (it was like bread - hard in the center.) The grits looked great but had no flavor whatsoever - we couldn't eat them either. The breakfast sandwich was not bad but was also minimal. It is quite cute on the inside so I would recommend it for atmosphere. I just wish we had enjoyed our breakfast more :-(

  • Lucy W.

We were in the area and decided to stop by this place. Pancakes were huge, I have it good authority that the jalapeño bacon was really good. It must have been fried in jalapeño infused oil? None on the bacon itself. The hash was different, very spicy with a mixture spices I couldn't identify. If it had not been for the heavy spices it would have been awesome. I had the brioche French toast with bananas. Very yummy. The service was fast and friendly. Nice place.

Best breakfast/brunch place I've ever been to. Ever. Period. I've been around the country, since I travel professionally, and I love breakfast. Eggs Benedict are always on point. The cinnamon roll in a goblet (bowl with a handle. I've only gotten it once) was good and gooey on the inside and crunchy and caramelized on the outer layers. It's always full there, with good reason.

This is a hidden gem... Good hearty southern food. They do not serve alcohol if you are looking for a Bloody Mary with your brunch & the meals are MASSIVE. Either plan to not eat for the next 24 hrs or share your meal

  • Brandi P.

The food was good (pancakes are delicious) and our server was very sweet and attentive, but when we went to pay for a $30 meal with a $100 bill the lady at the front (whom I assume is the owner) said that it would wipe her out. I offered to run to the car to get smaller change and she said no it's fine and rudely made change and in a condescendingly rude way told us to have a nice day. Maybe you should have extra cash ... You do run a busy restaurant in mount pleasant.

Went here on a Sunday morning and the wait wasn't bad considering how packed they were. Great selection and very tasty food. The style of food is very heavy - but sometimes that's just what I'm looking for. I had the fried chicken waffle sandwich - it was the right call. The grits were not impressive, kind of bland, and I'm not a huge fan of potato chips (I'd rather have home-fried potatoes or hashbrowns), but overall it was a great weekend breakfast.

  • Kettely D.

I come here every time I am in Charleston. The food is fresh and atmosphere feels like your neighborhood cafe. I absolutely love their coffee. The breakfast items are not your typical bacon and eggs. I usually have the shrimp and grits.

  • Aleks K.

If you don't feel like making your own semi-homemade breakfast at home with pre-shredded cheese, come here! I don't see why this place is crowded. To make it through a breakfast meeting since I didn't do eggs and did not want a gut bust breakfast, I was going to go for some toast and a coffee. Well, they don't have toast. Alrighty, then. The only good thing I can say about Charleston Cafe is the "chippers" *eyeroll* were made in house and were decent.

Great warm and local feeling cafe in Mt. Pleasant. Yes everything down here feels local but this had a decidedly family feel to it as well. Like eating at granny's house when she invited the neighborhood over and it was just as packed. Everything we had was fresh and hot. Congrats to the proprietor for running a strong establishment.

  • Cassandra R.

We've always had great food here. Service is usually good too, only once or twice was it lacking (and they were really busy to be fair). They don't have a ton of "lighter options" so come with a big appetite and you'll leave perfectly satisfied.

    (5)
  • Christy M.

Good options. Got the Colonial Salad. Balsamic dressing is excellent! Would give it 5 stars if the coffee was better. Kathryn (sp?) is an excellent, happy and sweet server!!

  • Jason H.

Never disappoints. Best breakfast in MP. Jalapeño bacon is amazing. So is the fried green tomato blt and meatloaf. Healthy portions and great fast service. Always have amazing creative specials that change daily. Only wish they had more real estate for the wait outside to get a table. You want brunch then you have this and Red Drum and then there is everyone else.

  • Carmela O.

AHHHHHH!!!!!! I wish I could have eaten seventeen meals here. I went with a large group and had a bite of everyone's and still didn't even get a small portion of all that I wanted to try off their menu. Make sure you check out their specials board because it was almost as extensive as the menu itself and included delicious coffee drinks. I really have no tips for the menu because everything was awesome. I would only caveat that they have no mimosas, which is kinda shocking for a brunch place, but totally forgivable.

  • Victoria P.

This place has amazing food! It took me awhile to decide what to get because everything sounded so good. I decided on Chucktown and it was delicious! Two waffles with eggs, bacon, and fried chicken in between like a sandwich. Service was very friendly and fast, they suggested Irish cream mocha to my boyfriend and he loved it.

  • Sarah D.

After an aggravating few minutes trying to find the place (they didn't have their sign up for some reason), we finally sat down to eat brunch. After seeing that they had sweet potato biscuits my mom commented that you shouldn't mess with biscuits. The waitress overheard this and gave us some of the sweet potato biscuits on the house. They were so good! You should definitely mess with biscuits! I got pancakes, which was a mistake after eating the biscuits. They were good but there's only so much sweetness I should eat for breakfast. Next time I'll get something savory and like a bucketful of sweet potato biscuits! Waitress was nice, place was cute and food was good!

If you're looking for a lite breakfast, DO NOT COME HERE. Portion sizes are very large, and heavy. You can gain and easy 10lbs before your notice it's not even noon. This place is very "Charleston" and has a feel of a small, family owned, diner. Chicken and waffles were amazing, but it was enough to feed two or more people. They have legendary potato casseroles. (island of palms is my favorite) This place could use a face lift if I must be critical. But If your traveling and looking for something local for brunch, it's a must try!

Skeptical of the locale, but we are so glad we went! Majorly delicious! Nice staff, gooooood coffee and a wonderful homemade breakfast. Must try the Sweet Potato Biscuits!

  • Safiyyah S.

I've been here twice when visiting my parents who live here. It's small and quaint but the food is amazing. It was much more than I expected and for such a good price! The presentation was amazing and the Chefs special on the 4th of July more than outdid itself! It had eggs and a crab cake all on top of a grit cake with shrimp and crab and gravy. I will keep coming back here every chance I have to visit!

    (4)
  • Kaitlyn P.

This little place was absolutely fabulous! I tried shrimp and grits here (for the first time) and I was not disappointed at all. It was absolutely delicious! My boyfriend got the chicken-waffle sandwich, and oh my lord was that good! Eggs, bacon, cheese and fried chicken between two sweet waffles. We each got a latte as well (hazelnut and vanilla), and as someone who drink Starbucks lattes on a regular basis, I can say with assurance that these were FAR better than any I've had at Starbucks!

  • Emily M.

I was sadly disappointed. Although the staff was very friendly the food was incredibly lacking. I ordered pancakes; they were extremely dry and lacked flavor. We chose this spot for breakfast because of all the positive reviews. I'm hoping it was a fluke; but with the plethora of choices for breakfast, we probably won't be back.

The battery BLT - trust me, get it. Sooo good! Jalapeño bacon, fried green tomato, field greens, egg scramble, aioli... Yum! Who knew jalapeño bacon existed? It's a spicy party in your mouth. I wanted to steal my husband's sandwich after having one bite. The southern eggs Benedict was good too. Perfectly poached eggs over a fried green tomato, with bacon on top. My cousin for the Allen's choice? Adams choice? Sausages wrapped in pancake batter with Gruyere and egg white scramble, all topped off with spiced maple syrup. It was good but a bit underwhelming after the battery BLT. The sweet potato biscuit was really good too. Definitely get one.

Great food. Good seating considering it was busy on a Sunday. The service and timeliness of receiving food was great. Loved the ambiance of the cafe. They ought to be open til later however. Overall good experience!

Great breakfast place. Fresh food, always crowded... Staff is great. Their food is definately NOT light! Ok, maybe you can get something here that is.. But I can easily cook a light breakfast at home.. Will keep this place on my TO GO list for weekend breakfasts.

  • Nick F.

Went here for breakfast after a fun weekend in Charleston. The food and service was great - just doesn't have much else as far as location/view/etc. goes. Definitely a worthwhile spot if you're looking to grab a bite I in your way out of town.

Slooooooooooooow service. Tasteless grits. Huz ordered an omelet which he claimed was the worst he's ever had - 4 tiny pieces of ham, 3 tiny pieces of green pepper and 3 tiny pieces of onion. A couple of slices of cheese on top and it looked like it was microwaved. I had the tasteless grits with 3 tiny shrimp. It came with choice of eggs, I ordered scrambled and they came to me fried. Bitter coffee. One unisex bathroom for the whole place. If I could give negative stars I would.

  • Theresa D.

My god, so good! This is the perfect combination of amazing food, humongous portions, and southern flavors that I long for in a brunch place. I think their breakfast foods out rank the lunch just a bit, but you can't go wrong with either. There are always delicious and seasonal specials to choose from too. If you're looking for a light, healthy breakfast, the options are slim. Besides, it's impossible to stir away from some of their "less healthy" dishes, so just don't fight it. The chicken and waffles call to you!

  • Carolyn L.

This place hade some unique dishes, such as breakfast sausage patty dipped in pancake batter and deep fried (Andrew's Choice) and eggs Benedict with fried green tomato. We tried a little bit of everything and they were all delicious. There was a five minute wait when we got there at noon on Saturday, but they offered free coffee while we wait. Compared to other breakfast places, it took them a while to bring our food out. The portion is average, not huge like the portion at Cheesecake Factory or some other diners. I'd recommend that place if you're not on a diet.

    (5)
  • Katelyn W.

This place is incredible! It's kind of a hole in the wall and filled with kitsch but the food is insane! The service is great, staff was very friendly and helpful. I got a fried pb&j with a side of grits and eggs and a sweet potato biscuit. It definitely hit the spot! My boyfriend got the shrimp & grits and said it was the best he's ever had. I don't think we would have ever found this place without yelp but I'm so glad we did! Also, the coffee is super tasty. I had the firecracker latte which was on the specials since it's 4th of July weekend. It's raspberry, blueberry, and white chocolate! The flavors didn't overpower the coffee at all, but just gave it a hint of sweetness. Definitely stop in this place for an amazing brunch!

This used to be the Bookstore Café in Charleston and it was wonderful! Now it's just an average café. So sad that they changed it so much. Even the food is not as good. We do wish them well, though.

If you're in Charleston, make the trip out to this neighborhood joint and have breakfast here. The service is good, the food is fantastic and you even get free coffee while waiting! This is perhaps some of the best corned beef hash I've had. Too bad it's 6 hours away from where I live. Also, if you don't know, chippers are like thick potato chips. However they're not that great, so I'd recommend something else.

  • Ac A.

Breakfast was pretty good I wasn't the biggest fan of the shrimp and grits here the shrimp weren't seasoned and they used a tomato based sauce instead of brown but the omelets are worth it especially the one I had with apple chicken sausage and cartelized onions

One of the best breakfasts I have had in a while. Was just here Saturday morning. Cameron, our server, was awesome and so personable...food. was. awesome. special of crab cake, poached eggs, shrimp, grits, tasso ham gravy...are you kidding me???? so freaking good. my sister had a greek omelette. pancackes were great. waffle was great. will definitely go back here next time I am in town!

Small little breakfast place that serves decent breakfast food. They get VERY busy on the weekends so come early. They do a great job of keeping customers happy who have to wait outside: music, water...even some tea/coffee if I remember correctly. As I said food was good. Place could use a little updating and maybe a good scrib down - felt like I was sticking to the table a bit.

I've been here twice, and each time it's been mind blowing. The atmosphere is super chill (it's in a store front). Decorated with local art, that is for sale. As for the food, I had the Amber's Choice. Lawwwd have mercy! It's a crab cake, topped with 2 eggs done your way and hollandaise sauce and topped with shrimp and smoked sausage. The flavor! All the seafood is just so fresh. The crab cakes are done great with plenty of crab and great flavor. I got cheese grits to go with mine, which the grits were creamy and stone grits which is the low country way and I love it. The servings are big! I'm a big guy and finished all of mine, but it could be a lot for others. You also get a biscuit option with breakfast entrées. The sweet potato biscuit is one the best I've had across the south, I do advise it. The first time I went I was fresh off an early morning flight and went straight there. It's a great Charleston welcome! Happy eating folks!

The food was just okay it wasn't anything outstanding. I had two eggs and grits one biscuit and coffee and it was a little over nine dollars and there was nothing spectacular tasting about any of it. When I checked out, the owner took my money and I asked for a receipt and she gave me a receipt without her restaurant name on it and I asked her if she had something with her name on it and she said no I'm just a single entrepreneurand that's all I have a plane receipt and then she took her business card and staple it on there. She was pretty hateful! I was shocked that the owner would talk to a patron like that! I won't be going back!

My family ate here for breakfast this morning, June 25. It is a small café located in a strip mall type of building. They have a good selection of items on the menu... from "fancy" to country cooking. We ordered the southern benedict, salmon benedict, cheese grits, jalapeno bacon, diced potatoes and the scrambled egg, yogurt and 1/2 banana meal for our child. My husband also ordered sweet tea. The sweet tea was delicious... it had a cinnamon flavor to it-- best thing we ordered. Both benedicts were "weird"... we have never eaten eggs benedict before and apparently it wasn't exactly what we wanted for breakfast this morning. The salmon was good, but it was a little too "salmon-y." The diced potatoes were fried, but not too greasy. My husband said the grits didn't have any flavor, but the jalapeno bacon was flavorful and had a good kick to it. The bill: for what we ordered, the bill was fairly reasonable. I think the bacon may have been $4, but we can't remember... if it was, that was too high for three pieces of bacon. The waitress was nice, but wasn't as bubbly as other waitresses we've had in the area. I did take one issue with her: our child was getting a little whiny and the waitress asked if she could bring a biscuit... I said "sure," and when she brought it she said " maybe that will keep her busy for a while." UMMMM.... do you want a tip?? I probably just took it the wrong way, but geez... it's not a fancy, linen tablecloth restaurant! Overall, it was a filling breakfast, but we could have eaten for free at the hotel. We would probably come back again if we vacationed in the area, but we would order something different... maybe pancakes or an omelet.

Ok so I don't want to be unfair to this place however some things just don't work. Crunchy shake-n-bake chilli relleno for one. Then served in a fried flour taco shell. I love crunch but I want to taste that chilli pepper just a little. The salsa was from a jar or a can and there just were not enough beans or egg. Oh did I mention this was a breakfast chilli relleno? Next I let the waitress talk me into chippers instead of gritz. These are an aweful idea for breakfast. Kind of used as a substitute for home fries or hash browns but they are really just soggy potato chips, meh! They did not fit with Mexican breakfast at all. The meal was like my first 7th grade dance, awkward and when I did dance with a girl I just tried to keep my boner from poking her. I think this place has some good food I could see it on other peoples plates but they need to get rid I the weird menu items and just produce the stuff that people come back for.

Food was ok. Place is busy. Grits were bland. I got the special. Portion was pretty small for $11.00. My wife got the pancakes. They were good and pretty big. Get a sweet potato biscuit. It was great! Overall we had a good experience. The staff is very friendly. Compared to other spots we are it, this was just ok.

This place was a great breakfast spot for a group of us coming into town for the week for work. We had quite a few items off the menu, but the one that got the best review and shared by all was the cajun omelette that had crawfish, andouille sausage and cheese. It had my coworker asking for more. The sweet potato biscuit won rave reviews and the staff was super friendly and accomodating. The pancakes were also good and next time I come to the area I will definitely be coming back here!

This is the best breakfast restaurant in Mt. Pleasant! I usually try something different every time and it's always awesome! The wait is worth it. Some of my favorites are Amber's Choice, Wadmalaw Island Chippers, and the Fried Green Tomatoes & Pimiento Cheese Sandwich. Definitely check out the specials board when you visit.

I was in Charleston for 4 days in march and ate here 3 days for breakfast/lunch. This place is great. Went on Saturday where there was a 15 minute wait and you get complimentary water and coffee outside while you wait. The staff is super friendly and very attentive. The first time I went I had the shrimp and grits (first time ever having grits) and they were delicious. Had a side of eggs and the sweet potato biscuit. No matter what you get here, get the biscuit. Second time I had banana pancakes which were also very good. Third time I got the southern Benedict. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked, the bread and bacon as well. And the fried green tomatoes were outstanding, as well as the sauce that comes on it. My brother had gotten one of the potato omelets or something which he also enjoyed but we both agreed the southern Benedict with a side of a sweet potato biscuit is the way to go here. Definitely coming back if I make my way back to charleston.

Breakfast Apr 22 This isn't Denny's or the I-Hop! If you're looking for atypical breakfast fare DO NOT go here. But if you're looking for unique and flavorful Breakfast dishes, prepared fresh and you don't mind eating a bit decadently, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. The combinations and creativity is amazing. Today I had Andrew's Choice...it was described as "sausage patties dipped in pancake batter and grilled with fried eggs, Gruyere cheese & spiced maple syrup served with grits or chippers" - yeah, it was a sausage stuffed pancake! It was incredible. We also ordered Charleston's Breakfast which is described as "eggs set on fried green tomatoes topped with country ham gravy served with grits or chippers & biscuit" - what an incredibly tasty dish. This is a great place for a non-traditional breakfast. This is one of my favorite breakfast places anywhere!

This place was wonderful!! The food was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere was quaint. We stopped here for brunch at 10am on a Sunday with a group of 8 people and we were seated immediately because of their handy call ahead seating. The kitchen was so fast, they had our food out in no time!! I would highly recommend this place. The only downside to the restaurant is that they only have one bathroom, so the wait is quite long at times.

Three words, Sweet Potato Biscuit! Maybe it's because I'm not from the South but this Southern California Girl fell in love! That was the best part of my meal. I had the Mexican Omelet which you could probably get anywhere and only tried one "chipper" to know that i wouldn't like chips with my breakfast. The coffee is good but bold so be prepared to grow some hair on your chest. Service was great! They had plenty of people on staff to make sure the place runs smoothly. I got in before the crowd and that would be my advice to you too as I sat and watched the parking lot fill up. Overall give it a try but I think Charleston has more to offer.

What a great find. Lots of awesome southern cooking. The Nasty Chicken biscuit, covered in sausage gravy was unbelievable! Everything is made fresh with new specials posted on the chalk board. Waitress new all the ingredients, the prep, and what could be changed without affecting the flavor. A must taste to believe it!

On an overcast mid-morning Saturday expect to find this place packed out. My wife and I found this the case on 3/1/14. Being in a small strip mall, parking is hard to come by, but don't let the crowd and potential parking adventure deter you. You'll find a couple dozen chairs outside under cover with customers sipping complimentary coffee, eagerly awaiting their names to be called. Inside is a nice cozy cafe that has a homey feel. It has expanded into the previous store beside it to accommodate more hungry Mt. Pleasant residents. I ordered the Daily Special, Taste of New Orleans for brunch. Split English muffin topped with Canadian bacon, fried green tomatoes, shrimp, two eggs over easy (takes breath) and finally a hollandaise sauce with a kick! Upon the first forkful I immediately notice the crisp fried green tomatoes. Yum. Highly recommend this dish. Wife got the Belgian waffles which were fluffy and perfectly sweetened with syrup, sliced bananas and pecans I believe. Moving to the West Ashley area soon and will definitely make the drive across town back to this cozy cafe.

This place is awesome! When I come back It will definitely be one of my go to places to eat. The service was awesome!! If you like trying new things and like sweet tea, try their spiced iced tea. It's made with orange and cinnamon. It may sound gross but is delicious. Also, try a sweet potato biscuit. Not too sweet and so nice and fluffy. Already looking forward to the next trip back!

Went here with my husband and my mom for Sunday brunch. Awesome little place! We were seated right away and our coffee was brought promptly. After out order was taken it took only about 5 or 10 minutes to get our food out even though the place was quite crowded!!! Service was awesome in general because she was always right there when need eds to refill coffee or water. Food was pretty good overall. We all tried the sweet potato biscuits. I was not the biggest fan because it tasted more like a muffin but my husband really liked it. I got one of the specials: salmon Benedict. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the salmon was a very generous portion and moist. I got grits as my side and did not really like them that much. I usually olive grits but these were kind of bland. My mom had one of the hash specials and liked the top but not the crispers (which were not like hash browns but more like potato chips so it was a little weird for breakfast). My husband got a crab cake thing and said it was really fantastic although he also did not enjoy his crispers. Overall, I would definitely go here again!

Thank you fellow Yelpers for directing us to Charleston Cafe right off of 17. We were greeted by welcoming staff as well as fresh and unique specials for breakfast with very decent portion sizes. They don't serve toast here but make up for it with their sweet potato or home style biscuits. And keeping in southern tradition, breakfast comes with a side of grits, cheese optional. I wanted to try the banana burrito until I saw the New Orleans special featuring fried green tomatoes, shrimp and boom boom sauce. Mmmhmm!

You know how most places, especially in Charleston, only want to hire experienced waiters/waitresses? Well, this is the restaurant thats hiring newbies. I dont want to give this place quite the one star rating because I bet there are competent staff and decent b'fast food, but I will not be making a second visit to check. I went this past Saturday morning with my aunt who is 74 years old...that has a point later. I was told by a colleague that this place was the bees knees, but in retrospect I should have questioned her suggestion considering she thinks Andolini's is the best pizza ever. Anyway, my aunt and I walk in, and I dont know where to go. When you walk in, there isn't a hostess stand near the door, so I naturally think you seat yourself. But then we walk to the cashier station and I stand there for a second, thinking SOMEONE is going to address me with a "Good Morning' or "Just two?", or something, but we stand there for what I consider is too long and finally I turn to the cashier standing at the station and ask, "Do we seat ourselves??" Its then that I finally get acknowledged and seated. Our waitress comes to the table, takes our order for coffee and we take a peak at the menu. Now, I have never seen anything like "chippers" or whatever the hell they call them. On the menu they have the "Island Potato Casseroles" which chippers make up. Now when I think of "POTATO CASSEROLE", I think of a hash brown casserole. Sliced potatoes or shredded potatoes, cut up potatoes..SOMETHING like that. So when I see potato casserole, with the description of veggies etc...in the mix that looks appealing to me. I ask the waitress what chippers are and she says they are thin sliced potatoes..."some are soft some are crunchy". Again, I think of the sliced potatoes, kind of like scalloped potatoes made into a casserole. Her description is not clear, but I would have not guessed it was what was put in front of me. Comes with an egg and biscuit, so I order it. Cool. My aunt orders the veggie omelet with veggies and a side of chippers, both of us thinking its some recently made up Charleston word for hash-browns. When she puts the plate in front of me, I see a grease pile of heavily salty seasoned potato chips with a fried egg on top and underneath are veggies mixed with unmelted/melted cheese. Sick. These chippers are as thin, crispy, crunchy, and greasy as store brand potato chips. With veggies and shredded cheese thrown on top? Really and truly appalling. I call the waitress back and tell her I didn't realize they were like potato chips. She cocks her head to the side and says as if I am bothering her, "Well I described them to you darlin'. Would you like something else?". Darlin? Keep in mind this young lady couldn't be more than 19 or 20. Didn't like that, but when my aunt who also didn't want Wise for breakfast and wants something else, she too gets the same darlin' speech. I was officially annoyed. To speak to an elder almost four times your age so patronizingly and with an upward inflection at the end of your sentence (which is so annoying!!!!!), is ill-mannered. Anyway, as a replacement I order an omelet, and she just HAS to add "You obviously want the grits as a side, right?." Ugh... I couldn't wait to get out of this place. I get my omelet, its meh, the other side option, grits, were meh. But then again, Im no longer a fan of grits like I was when I was a child. As she came back and forth from our table to the cashier station, I watched her the whole time, talking to coworkers at the station obviously annoyed at the apparent massive misunderstanding we created for her early morning mind. They would look our way casually to see who the culprits were... If there is anything that will keep me away from a restaurant, its terrible customer service. Ive been to places where the food was ok, but the CS was outstanding, and I would make a second trip just for that purpose. So Charlestons Cafe lack of CS, clueless waitstaff, plus the mediocre food make for a not gonna happen 2nd visit.

We were in town for a wedding and looking for a morning brunch spot on our free day. We headed to Charleston Cafe based on good reviews. We waited a few minutes for a table but then received menus and drinks quickly. Just a note -if you enjoy black tea, the Charleston black tea is a little bit better than lipton, not robust at all in flavor. My husband got the coffee - was diner quality. I ordered the eggs benedict on fried green tomatoes and french bread and my husband got the Audrey's special (benedict on crab cakes). When we ordered the waitress asked us how we'd like our eggs. Huh? If it's benedict - don't you know how I'd like my eggs? Nope. They don't poach eggs so you have to order them a different style. So I order mine over medium. The food came out fairly fast. It didn't just come with hollondaise sauce it was covered. I'm talking giant yellow blob. When I peeled away the congealed layer of sauce, I realized that I just had bread and eggs but no fried green tomatoes. So, when I see the waitress, I mention the missing tomatoes and she apologizes and asks me if I want them on the side - I said fine. Fifteen minutes go by, the waitress hasn't come and no tomatoes either. I slowly eat through my butter/hollondaise soaked eggs and munch on the chippers that come with it. Finally, she comes back and realizes we have no green tomatoes, she goes back, then comes back with her manager who offers to comp me my meal and package the tomatoes to go. I say, okay. The meals: My eggs were cooked fine, but the bread was soggy with sauce and hadn't been toasted so didn't really add to the dish. (Bread is not actually french bread, which it says on the menu). The chippers (which are homemade chips) were seasoned nicely but not all evenly cooked through and were oily. The hollondaise tasted okay but was completely overpowering since it covered my entire dish. My husband's crab cake meal came with a biscuit (he had picked sweet potato). It was more like a misshapen muffin - good but not a biscuit by standard definition. His eggs were okay and crab cakes were not seasoned well. Ultimately, this is just a step up from a greasy spoon. From the awkward service to the very unhealthy food. (Also overprice for what you get). PS. When we got in the car, I took a bite of the fried green tomatoes - extremely oily. The tomato sauce that comes with it was not flavorful and the pimento cheese was just okay.

This little place was slammed when I went with my guy. We were expecting a culinary delight from the size of the crowd inside. I would say this place is just alright. I had the french toast with bananas and caramel sauce. It just didn't sing to me. It sounded far better than it actually was. This place is average, probably won't go back. It is in a little strip mall and can be hard to find. I don't know that I would make the effort to try it again, except for the fact that I believe they serve breakfast throughout the week.

I was not impressed with this place at all. I ordered the "southern" eggs benedict but what I got was not a benedict at all and was barely edible. A traditional benedict is poached eggs over meat (traditionally ham) and an english muffin and topped with hollandaise. What I got was fried eggs over burnt bacon and what looked to be like a fried green tomato that came from a frozen bag, all over an inch and a half tall huge slab of french bread and this was all topped with some runny fake hollandaise sauce. My wife had a veggie omelette that I tasted because mine was so bad. Her veggies had not been cooked at all prior to entering the omelette. Raw veggies in an omelette was not good. Her grits were bland and lacked any flavor whatsoever. This and two cups of coffee and we were looking at $30. We won't be back.

3 words: sweet potato biscuit!!!! Delicious. I ended up getting a dish that was a crab cake topped with shrimp and smoked sausage, egg and holland aide sauce . The dish was good, I did think they had put a little too much holland aide sauce , but I just pushed some of it off to the side. It also came with a side of chippers ( homemade chips) the prices are reasonable but don't do add ons ! They charge alot for a side of bacon or an extra egg.

I used to love this place, but this past Sunday was a terrible experience for me. I met up with some friends who were from out of town to show off the great food that Charleston has to offer, but we were all very disappointed. We had four orders and half of them were not correct. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits without bacon because she is unable to process red meat. When the order came out it had bacon on it. The waitress took it back with great hesitation. When she returned, the bacon was simply scrapped off of the side of the dish with some remnants still on the plate! They got my order completely wrong, brining me out another customer's order and forgetting mine altogether. When my order came out I was really disappointed. I ordered a fried green tomato eggs Benedict but the eggs were not runny at all and the bread it was on was a store bought French baguette... Who puts eggs benedict on that? I was very disappointed in the wait staff as well. They were not friendly and seemed to be annoyed by the customers. We paid for a very expensive brunch with very bad food. I will not be returning to the Charleston Cafe, which is really sad because I live within walking distance of the restaurant and won't be returning.

This place is tucked away in a shopping center. it looks like a typical southern cafe. Whatever you do, you have to try the sweet potato biscuit with jelly and chicken and waffles. It was so delicious. The chicken and waffles could be shared so you can try something else. The waffles are dusted with powdered sugar with a side of strawberry cream cheese! OMG the chicken was crispy and wasn't greasy at all. Everything was amazing!

Do not under-estimate this place...it is in a older looking strip mall and there was broken glass in the parking lot. However, once you get inside, the county decor is very charming. This place was PACKED for Sunday breakfast, but we were seated right away and service was fast anyway. Very strong coffee brought right away. I ordered the brioche french toast (with carmel, candied walnuts, and banana) and it was great. My husband ordered the BBQ benedict (eggs benedict with pulled pork, cornbread, bbq hollandaise, and breakfast potatoes) and he said it was his new favorite breakfast! A great experience overall!

I found this place to be just average, I know of a better place across the bridge on Savannah Highway. After a 40 minute wait, and the coffee outside was never refilled we were seated and sat another 10 minutes before the server asked for our drink order. Now this place is a bit small so I understand the wait as its popularity/ curiosity is high. I was anticipating a knock my socks off breakfast and was disappointed. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of bacon. I was informed they were out of jalapeño bacon..Whaaat? The shrimp and grits were just OK, the shrimp were a bit strong, maybe they were not as fresh as advertised? The missus ordered the French toast which was pleasing to her (thus the 3 star) our server was friendly but way way busy not her fault just need better scheduling. I might give it another try and order something more traditional.

So,the Charleston Cafe is located in a small shopping plaza on Johnny Dodds on your way towards Shem Creek from Mt Pleasant and I feel like I am slightly changed for life since eating there, seriously. Breakfast is a meal I typically like to start out on the healthy side, not this day. On the special board, Pumpkin Pancakes with a caramel syrup and homemade whipped cream so yes, even though I have never ordered a pancake in a restaurant IN MY LIFE, I love pumpkin and had to have it and so glad I did! Texture, flavor combination was perfect! Although I could not finish it, I couldn't have imagined it any better. Why didn't I finish it? Well, because I ordered the Amber's Special! Crab cake benedict topped with poached eggs, shrimp and smoked sausage, a side of grits and a homemade sweet potato biscuit! YES, that is what I had for breakfast! The grits were outstanding, it looked more like a trough of grits, but they were creamy and for breakfast that is how I prefer mine. The crab cakes were fresh, meaty and had nice consistency, I really liked the sausage and shrimp with the eggs. I have to mention FISH and I don't do breakfast together. I am not sure I would order it again, only because I want to move on to something else. Not that I could even think of tasting the biscuit, but I did and it was perfect. Good bits of sweet potato, moist with what appeared to be a blend of white and wheat flour - I brought it with me for later! What did Greg have?? a side of jalapeno bacon which was ok - with all of the other flavors it may have been a bit lost and it just wasn't standing out. It had a serious kick, even for us and we love spicy. He had eggs and cheese with sausage that was battered in pancake batter and fried - ummm YUM! How did I never think of this, in all honesty, I was pretty bummed I hadn't! The coffee was great, nice and rich without being too bold. Other than the strip mall the ambiance as great, although we sat outside on the sidewalk because it was gorgeous, the inside was quant and a good blend of southern country home meets diner. If you are in or around Charleston or Mt. P - you have to check this place out, it's no joke! Did I mention the pancake had candy corn on it? dliciousopinions.com/201…

Breakfast food served on potato chips... Odd. It took me a minute to warm up to the idea. My brilliant self should have asked what "chippers" were. I thought it would be like a home fries. Why wouldn't it be? The food itself tasted really good. Believe it or not, eggs on potato chips is very filling! Haha. Might be back to try my hand at another dish!

I was looking forward to trying this place after reading the good reviews. I walked out hungry. I didn't even eat my waffle. It was too sweet, had the consistency of a frozen waffle, and was over cooked. My husband had the southwestern omelet and thought it was bland. The coffee wasn't even good.

My husband and I went to Charleston Cafe this morning in hopes of finding a decent breakfast place in the Mt. Pleasant area. What we got was a boat load of grease and clogged arteries. I ordered a potato casserole thinking that their were going to be potatoes in it, (they call them chippers) but what I received was eggs thrown over greasy potato chips with a bit of spinach, mushrooms and cheese with fake hollandaise on top. Yuck. Even their biscuits were horrible. And don't bother asking for toast because they have no toaster! My husband ordered the huevos rellenos (sp?) and got a slop-filled tortilla with a deep fried something he could not even decipher. Awful! The only praise we had was for the tea (local Charleston Plantation), coffee and the attentive service. So if you don't mind a grease fest, this place is for you.

We have been to many breakfast joints during our travels throughout several states in the past 5 years. This is by far our favorite. The food is consistently great and the chips served with breakfast are great. We cannot wait to be back in the area to begin going here again.

My go to place for breakfast, especially when guests are in town. I let the out of towers eat the amazing Southern fare while I order the terrific authentic French bread toast (its around $5 bucks!) or the yummy granola & fruit parfait. There's a reason why locals line up here on Sundays.

This restaurant USED to be located in downtown Charleston & known as the Charleston Bookstore Cafe located on King Street diagonally across from the Francis Marion Hotel. It took a decade before we discovered it... then after a few years it moved! (But we thought it had closed as several restaurants do every year in Charleston.) A year later as I sat on the deck at Shem Creek Inn reading the Charleston Travel Guide provided, I saw the ad for the RELOCATED Charleston's Cafe! What serendipity! There MAY be a few EQUAL breakfasts in Charleston, but NONE FINER. In season, awesome pumpkin pancakes. So many great choices... but I have a hard time getting past the benedict with fried green tomatoes! Coffee is always great & service is very attentive! We have been patrons for over a decade and stop in 3-5 times a year... it is a priority whenever we are in the area. Visited June 2012

I visited Charleston's for the first time on a recent Saturday morning. There were plenty of customers already there but my party of three was seated right away. Despite being tucked into a little strip mall, I found the decor to be cheerful with out tackiness. I don't know that I would wait more than 20 minutes for a table but, the food my party experienced was certainly better than described by Anna H. I had cinnamon raisin french toast, with cream cheese and marmalade, and sprinkled with bourbon-roasted pecans. It was very tasty. (One of the morning specials; I think it was $8.) I also ordered a side of (2) sausage patties. ($3, at most, maybe $2.50) The sausage was a bit salty for my preference but certainly not inedible. I've noticed that with other sausage patties so, maybe they're just not my thing. My dining companions both had the sweet potato biscuits, per our server's recommendation. They were both about the size of my fist, light, but not very flavorful. One of my companions thought they needed more cinnamon. Otherwise, both were happy with their respective entrees. They do offer OJ with or without pulp, which I thought was a nice touch.

This place has just started to become mediocre. We make sure that we don't go during their weekend rush. If you look around at their kitchen supplies, you will not see anything fresh in this place. Nothing but canned or already made. Probably will find a new breakfast place.

I'm not exactly sure why this place received so many 4 and 5 star reviews. 3 stars adequately sums up this place....it was just OK. I will be fair, and I can only comment on the huevos rancheros and the oatmeal. I would not get the huevos rancheros here again.....I probably should have known better. That dish is served best at Mexican restaurants....e.g. Taco Cabana. But I am a sucker for it, and so wanted to try it. It was just so/so. The taco shell that it comes in tasted a little stale. Grits are grits.....being from the North, I still have no clue what grits are....but I always try them anyway.....and I never end up liking them. So maybe they are phenomenal here.....I wouldn't know. They serve there own version of thin, crispy potato chips called "chippers." They weren't bad....but I'd just rather have home fries with breakfast. The chippers would go better with a sandwich. The best thing was the $5 oatmeal. I was actually surprised by the quantity. Though the sneaky waiter added an extra $2 because I asked to make it with milk instead of water. Really? $2 for a little milk in oatmeal. Shady....and she didn't even tell us there was an extra charge until we saw the bill. THM (Take Home Message): If this is the only non-chain breakfast spot near the beach....I suppose it's worth a try. The menu is quite varied, and other selections may be much better than the huevos rancheros. The owner did give a 10% military discount.....which always makes me want to support the place. But you have to ask the owner...b/c the waiters and cashiers were clueless and the owner just happened to overhear me asking. A little pricey for breakfast, though I'm sure most non-chain places this close to the beach are going to be.

TIP: You can call ahead to put your party on the wait list. Because there almost always is one! This spot was recommended to me by a local when I was visiting with family, and I will never have shrimp and grits again anywhere else, they were so so SO awesome. My mom had the southern benedict with fried green tomatoes on it and downed every morsel. Our server helped by recommending the tomato cream sauce dishes, wow! Great coffee too and comfortable surroundings. For breakfast, I cannot imagine a better spot. (Oh, and those sweet potato bisquits, YES!)

Amazing food! Everything is always very fresh, their daily board always has something wonderful to try on it. Last time I had the Farm House Hash w/biscuit. It has ranch potatoes w/Chroizo, black beans, spinach, tomatoes with eggs pepperjack cheese.. It was SOOO Good!! The only thing I wish they would offer is fried potatoes instead of the chips.. yes chips are freshly made. I just am not a big chip fan. but the portion was so big I didnt need anything else with it lol. I was stuffed after I ate it all. Oh I choose the fresh made sweet potato biscuit. I love it!! It is perfect :) Def worth the money for a good meal! Top 2 breakfast places in town to us. This and Seabiscuit on IOP are in a tie for 1st :)

Hopped over here while staying at the Wild Dunes resort for a wedding weekend. We dropped in about 11:30 on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy but not crowded. We grabbed a seat as soon as we walked in. I'd imagine this place gets real busy for Sunday brunch. The have chairs lined up outside for waiting and a coffee pot for those in line. I ordered a custom omelet with ham/spinach/cheese. I wanted to make sure I enjoyed my late breakfast and didn't chance my meal on a menu item I wasn't familiar with. The omelet came with grits and a sweet potato biscuit. My entire meal was excellent. I really enjoyed the sweet potato biscuit and recommend getting it. Keep in mind it's not a big fluffy biscuit and is kinda moist. The service was good, the place was well kept and the food was a good value. I wouldn't consider this a destination spot when visiting the area, but if you want something casual and a good value drop in here.

Great little wholesome breakfast/brunch spot. Chicken & waffles, benedicts, shrim'n'grits... The only roll of the dice is with the service. The last time I went here the server took our drink order and didn't come back to take our food order for about ten minutes. They also don't poach eggs for their benedicts... Thus not really a benedict... Everything else has always been good, it can get really packed on the weekends, so prepare to wait.

Was good food but waitress was crappy. First she placed a hot coffee right in front of our baby not even in front of the person that ordered it. So of course our baby grabs the hot coffee. That was almost a disaster. After she delivered our food she never came once and checked on us or refilled our drinks. The manager came over delivering our check before anyone even asked us if we were ready to go. We wanted to enjoy another cup of coffee but felt like we were being kicked out. This place needs to learn on their customer service skills. We also ordered some jalapeno bacon which wasn't even warm. The rest of the food was pretty good I must say.

Excellent novel southern combos and variations for breakfast involving the addition/substitution of country ham, fried green tomatoes etc. into standard brunchy items like the potato skillet/breakfast casserole, eggs benedict, etc. As well as the standard omelets, chicken and waffles, etc. The tomato cream sauce which is featured on a number of dishes ex. shrimp and grits is delightful. Prompt, friendly service, but get there before the church crowd lets out on Sundays, otherwise the wait could be lengthy. In a strip mall, not much ambiance, but then who eats the decor at breakfast?

This is the kind of breakfast/brunch place where you walk in and say, "I'm going to like it here," before even seeing a menu. The write-ups from Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazine hanging above the register also tell you something. The specials board looked impressive and the regular menu had everything on it you'd want from an all-day breakfast establishment. There is also a good number of items served with shrimp and/or grits, reminding you that you are getting your breakfast Carolina-style (read: delicious). And they make their own "chippers" potato chips... Awesome! I got the Monte Cristo sandwich and it was wonderful and HUGE. All around, great place and we'll be back next time we're in town.

Charleston Cafe used to be known as the Bookstore Cafe, located on central King Street in downtown Charleston. When they moved to Mt Pleasant, we were of course greatly disappointed but glad to see that we could still enjoy them with a short drive over the bridge. So for reference, if you are visiting downtown, you are probably looking at a 10-15 minute drive to this restaurant and there is plenty of parking in the shopping center. And let me tell you - it is well worth the short drive. Few places near Charleston offer a better breakfast for the money. Charleston Cafe offers very large portions of top-quality items that range from the basic breakfast to very creative and mouth-watering options such as (my personal favorite) the Croque Madame, gourmet pancackes, build-your-own omlete bar, and awesome potato casseroles. The first time I dined with them I ordered the Croque Madame and was blown away. I have ordered it several times since and it is always cooked perfectly and I struggle to finish the whole thing. This really speaks to their sense of quality and consistency. They offer freshly squeezed orange juice, an espresso bar, and lots of healthy options if you are in the mood for that. Everything is priced very reasonably and the owner is often roaming around the diner room checking on everything. There is a lunch menu that looks great, but I have never been there for lunch. I would be surprised if it wasn't as delightful as their breakfast consistently is. Make this a stop for sure. The only word of caution is that this restaurant has a very dedicated following. Translation - go early or be prepared to wait. In my experience if you get there before 9:30 on a weekend morning you are OK, but after that you will probably have to wait anywhere from 10-45 minutes to get it. Again, it is worth it. And to soften the blow, Charleston Cafe offers free coffee on the front patio while you wait.

If I lived in Charleston, or anywhere near - I would be as big as a house from eating at this restaurant. Both husband and I loved our breakfast. The grits far outshine the chippers - probably because they need to cook the chippers a second time to get them crispy. Otherwise, it was delicious!

Meh..... What else can one say? Interesting menu. Lots of great sounding dishes. However all were just average tasting. I'm sure it's fine for eggs and bacon but the grits were lackluster, especially considering it is supposedly their specialty. With our party trying 9 different dishes, only the omelet was "good," everything else was mediocre. The sweet potato pancakes were sour. The breakfast taco salad was small and very bland. If your a local, give it a whirl. If you are just visiting, it is not worth spending a meal there.

Excellent breakfast, cheaper than other places on Isle of Palm and around Charleston, but figure on 22-23$ for 2 people. I had egg over easy, ham, grits, coffee, toast and it was all done perfectly. Best grits I had on the trip. Wife had omelette and chips, plus toast. The chips were very very good. I will eat there again when I go back to Charleston.

I have been eating the Monte Cristo before it was Charleston's Cafe! I loved it as the Bookstore Cafe down on Kings and the onely thing Ive ever been disappointed with is the fact that they sell out of the almond croissants before I can get over there!

Having lived in Mount Pleasant, this was where I would usually have breakfast during the weekend if were to wake up early enough. Their food was somewhat hit or miss. The items on their regular menu was pretty good. They would sometimes try something new with a special and tend to make it too complicated, with too many flavors going on, ending up with something sub par. Overall a pretty good place to have breakfast. There was usually a line during the weekends since was really one of the only options in Mount Pleasant besides IHOP. Service was always attentive, but again somewhat slow during the weekend crowds. It can also be difficult to find since although there was really no identification for the restaurant on the building itself.

I like the fact that this place has seats outside and free coffee to enjoy while you wait. Menu is great, a nice Southern twist on breakfast. The only knock I had that the food comes with potato chips (they call them chippers) or grits. I am not a big fan of either. No home fries or any other potatoes fillers. Anyway I ordered the Southern Benedict. I was asked how I wanted my eggs and well it's a Benedict so I asked for poached...."we don't do poached"....well then don't call it a Benedict then! Nevertheless not too bad.... Okra Grill much better for breakfast though.

I went looking for something to eat while in Mt Pleasant and came across this quaint place. I had my 10 yr old boys with me, and when they saw they serve Breakfast all day (well through lunch) they were sold! One had the Chocolate Chip pancake (a favorite) and loved it, the other had an omelette with ham, spinach and cheese with bisucit and chips. He devoured the omelette! I had the chicken buffalo wrap and was surprised by how much I loved it! The fresh fruit was awesome and the Spiced Iced Tea, was Ahmazing!!! Loved this quaint little find and reccomend it to all who travel through here or live in the area. Price was right as well.

Im going to start w/ the fact we were a larger family group or unit. The Charleston's Cafe made us all feel welcome. Part of the family showed up first to ensure we were able to get a table w/o a long wait. We told the hostess about our party, a few mins later we were being shown to our table for 13, at this time there was only 4. They offed coffee right away to us. The rest of the party showed up. No problem with splitting up the checks. No added in group party tip. The food was really really good. Not only was it good, but it all came to the table in the same time frame. Everyone was eating together. Enjoyed that. The food had some down south country flair with the refineness you'll fine in Charleston SC. The breakfast hit the spot for everyone, and everyone ordered something different. Friendly staff & fast service. Great for groups. The only downside to the whole meal was the price. Everyone did think the food was a bit over priced for the portion size given.

First time here and don't really have anything bad to say. Me and the wife went with a special. Very tasty and good portions for the price. Would definitely come back.

AWESOME!!! Love the chippers. Charleston Breakfast is great. Good food and atmosphere. Excellent service, great customer service and waitresses are so friendly and provide excellent suggestions from the menu. We were in town visiting my daughter and found this rated real high on yelp so we gave it a try and it definitely was worth the high reviews. We are from out of town we ate breakfast there every morning we where there. There is a wait on weekends but it was well worth it.

Great and interesting menu that doesn't have the same ole same ole stuff. Flavors and combinations are excellent and the portions and ingredient quality are definitely a good deal for the price. Although the wait on a Sunday was a little long, from what I hear that's a normal in Charleston for that time of day. Go here and definitely try out the crab cakes with eggs, hollandaise and shrimp. Oh and the sweet potato biscuits and spiced iced tea are both amazing!!

Great shrimp & grits. Extensive menu including chicken & waffle sandwich, fried PB&J and friend cinnamon rolls. Super friendly service. Great place to get an authentic southern breakfast. Buttermilk biscuits are also great.

Incredible breakfast! Down to earth, homey place. The deep fried PB&J was awesome. Tasted like French toast sticks with PB&J. My husband had their version of the eggs Benedict with fried green tomatoes, and he loved it. Great, comfy place!

came here twice, back to back breakfasts....and loved it. prices around 20 each meal. portions very large sized leaving you in food coma afterwards. didn't care for chippers, but b-fast sandwich was fantastic. 2nd day we tried pancakes. one of our favorites on the trip

Mediocrity at it's finest. Waiter had no personality, not all bad but a definite, "I'm gonna do the bare minimum this mornin" kinda guy. The food was pretty lackluster, nothing above edible. Don't waste your money, honey. My girlfriend quit eating after three bites because she felt like she was in the cafeteria of a hospital... So many much better places. Charleston's Cafe is a huge disappointment.

Here I sit basking in the glow of a fabulous brunch from Charleston's Cafe in Mount Pleasant, formerly known in its downtown location as the Bookstore Cafe. The atmosphere is nothing special, and you'll definitely be waiting at least 30 minutes for a table on a Sunday, but once the plates are served you forget everything else and chow down on some of the best Southern brunch around. I had the luscious Huevos Rellenos, which featured a giant plate-sized tortilla full of perfectly scrambled eggs, black beans, salsa, sour cream, and the crowning touch: a cheese-filled, deep-fried poblano pepper. Amazingly, this monster entree comes with a side of grits. They're justifiably famous for their potato casseroles, which are basically a big bowl of eggs, perfect raw fries ("chippers"), cheese, and tasty fillings like spinach and applewood smoked bacon. Expect to pay $10 for an entree, and come hungry. Better not schedule any activities for a few hours afterwards, either. This is the real deal.

So good I almost gave it 5 stars. (Sorry, Bookstore, but while there is still a Flying Biscuit Cafe in operations, I will not be able to award any other breakfast establishment 5 stars.) Atmosphere is the only area that this place really lacks. The service at Charleston's Café (Bookstore) is consistently good. Although they are ALWAYS packed, they manage to remain attentive enough. Now, onto the food: I can honestly say that I cannot count the times I have been to Bookstore and I've never met a Bookstore plate I didn't clean. Their breakfast is served all day and I just cannot say enough nice things. Fluffy buttermilk biscuits and pancakes? Check. (They also offer sweet potato biscuits!) Grits? Check PLUS- be sure to read the special's board for inventions like Pimento Cheese Grits. Good coffee, fresh fruits and juices? Check, check, check! Their fried green tomatoes are a staple sharing plate and while their biscuits and gravy are not the BEST I've had, they are very good. They offer a light menu that is actually appetizing, which is nice when you are cutting back- yummy parfaits and baked grapefruit! Their lunch menu is also consistently good; I love their salads and sandwiches. My boyfriend is Cuban and swears their stuffed pepper was the best he's had and was cooked to perfection. My only complaint was that they put too much sauce on a dish I had about a year ago, so I advise my friends to ask for sauce on the side as some of theirs are very rich and can be overpowering. Tip: for Sat. or Sun. brunch beat the church crowds and/or the 20-something's hangover fix crowd. (Get there before 11am or bring a paper and be prepared to wait outside while you hang for about 15 minutes. They do have coffee and water.) Oh, and they do not serve alcohol so if you must have that Bloody... B.Y.O.Vodka. Just kidding. Last tip- if eating here for the first time, be adventurous- I was unimpressed with the basic eggs, meat and toast breakfast they offer here. Go out on a limb and try something that sounds awesome- it is!

Another great find thanks to YELP and one I would highly recommend. What a fun menu to choose from along with their daily specials. I was torn what to get but when I saw Jalapeno Bacon I was sold. The grits were divine and I just wish I could have tried more things. If you're in the area you have to give this place a try, you won't be dissapointed.

I would eat here everyday if, I still lived in charleston & wouldn't over eat myself into an early grave. I went here every sunday for brunch and would wait for a table no matter how long the line was. (I recommend that you call in). Be food for breakfast in the Charleston Area hands down. I usually get one of the "Island Caseroles" which are always amazing. This past week I tried a special, the breakfast burrito and it didn't let me down at all. I even brought a new couple and they said that they would we making special trips just to go! Staff is great and if there is a line you can have a coffee that the have set up outside. This place is fantastic!

It's better than IHOP but not off the charts. Portions are large but their breakfast potato is basically a restaurant-made potato chip. Not very original and hash browns are generally so much better, even IHOP. Problem here is that it's a small restaurant and not really worth the 30 minute wait on weekends. Staff is friendly, service is good.

Definitely a good breakfast haunt. My wife totally digs the parfaits which, though I hate the idea of eating a parfait, I must admit looks quite good. They also have helluva good scrambles which are placed on chippers (think really crunchy hash browns sliced instead of grated). Had the Cat Island one today with chili. Slammin. They also have very eclectic specials. Quite busy on the weekends, plan on a 20-30 minute wait. But like the other review said, it is worth it.
